Living the great life in Los Cabos. There are so many wonderful reasons to live in Los Cabos, but I must start with the number one reason: The warm hearted Mexican people, whom I have enjoyed for 25 years. They are so happy and generous, going out of their way to help in any way they can a confused or lost foreigner, always refusing to accept even one peso. I have had car break downs on the East Cape miles from town and every Mexican that comes by stops to help. They have driven me to town numerous times, even if their car is already full of people. Happily accepting another person or three with smiles all around. I have learned so much about true friendship here, even without fluency in the native language. Los Cabos is a magic place, inspiring joy, peace and long buried creative expression.

The weather is famously beautiful. And as for nature, what’s your pleasure? Pristine beaches, hot springs next to refreshing rivers, waterfalls, pine forests, oasis, all within reach here in beautiful Los Cabos. Did I mention the fresh and delicious food?

I have found my Paradise, it is lovely Los Cabos.

Everything.

I came to work in Vallarta in 2003 for a UK charity as a volunteer for 4 months, liked it so much I stayed 6 months - and then just had to find a way to come back and stay indefinitely. I am still here 8 years later...and am still floored by the generosity and warmth of the local people, the natural beauty of the landscape around me and the quality of life that makes such a fabulous and welcome change to London. I cannot see myself going back! My partner is from Vallarta, our first baby is due very soon and we are both looking forward to raising her in this beautiful spot.

After having struggled with the Seattle weather for 15 years, I built a 2nd home in San Jose del Cabo in 1999. To this day, I have never regretted that decision. The construction aspect was similar to my other experiences in the States and the quality of construction, as well as the true craftsmanship, is not affordable in the States. The beauty of the area and the weather are amazing, but it's truly the people of Los Cabos that make it so magical.

Living in North Baja is a dream come true for me! I have traveled to many beautiful places in the world and since I am an adventurer decided that I would live in one of them!My family and many friends live in the San Diego area and I like having the convenience of being able to drive a short distance to see them or having them come down to see me! There are many times when I will drive into southern California for the day and return in the evening! And upon entering Mexico I always feel a sense of serenity but also a thrill when I see the beautiful ocean winding its way along the Coast as I return to my casa! Both the Tijuana and San Diego Airports are very close and it is so nice to have that convenience. Baja offers a variety of activities for when I am energetic! I can drive to the Guadalupe Valley known for its fine wine and beautiful inns, dine in restaurants that have both excellent food and authentic charm and when family and friends come down they can golf at some of the best courses available. Cooking has always been a hobby of mine and I am so happy to be able to go to the local markets and select the freshest and tastiest vegetables, fruits ,meats and of course fish that has been caught early that morning.North Baja is the only place to live ---it doesn’t get any better!

We call Casa D'Linda our home in Las Gaviotas - our piece of paradise. For over 20 years. We travel from our home in the Hollywood Hills (another gorgeous view) to this jewel on the bay. We watch movies on the top floor loft, soak in the jacuzzi.......lights in the bay remind us of the south of France. We walk the malecon......pool exercises......visit with interesting neighbors. Go to Bobby's. La Fonda, Splash, Tapanco - we take guests to Valle Guadalupe to their delighted amazement... the 'foodie' guests love Punto Morro...shoppers say Fausto Palanco better than Robertson...Ventana Spa at Bobby's BEST ever...WE head south as often as possible - like a pair of home sick Tacos....Ya'll come...plenty of beauty, good times for all!

I love being able to drive just ½ hour from our home in San Diego to a different country. After the hustle bustle of city life, of work and stress, we breathe a sigh of relief when we see the Coronao Islands and the beautiful, blue Pacific, and the dolphins playing. San Diego is a paradise but, we cannot afford to live close to the beach. Beaches are so crowded; it is hard to park close and dogs are not allowed. ½ hour south, we can live at the beach and enjoy running with our dog on the white, sandy, not overcrowded beaches. The atmosphere is relaxed. We hang out with friends in the many charming, affordable restaurants; enjoy music, festivals, colorful shops and fine art galleries. We love tasting fine wines, gourmet dining, and world-class B & B’s in Valle de Guadalupe. The atmosphere is the closest to Spain that I have experienced, yet it is just an hour from San Diego.
With so much time spent in Northern Baja over the years, we cannot think of one frightening experience. We have always felt safe; have never experienced anything other than welcome. We were robbed in Spain and France, but never in Baja.
People have always been friendly, eager to help if you need directions or have questions. I love speaking Spanish but, if I didn’t, there would be no communication problem. Most people speak English; not just those working with tourists, but just about everyone. Lastly I will mention dental. After a prominent La Jolla, California dentist destroyed several teeth with bad, painful and very expensive procedures, l began seeing a Tijuana dentist. He has restored my teeth with painless and very affordable treatments. There is much more positive I could mention but, I want people to come and see for themselves. Don’t believe the negative press. Come and enjoy the beaches, the food and wine and, most of all, the Baja people.

After spending 30 years building homes in Houston, Texas. My Fiancée and I were determined to live the rest of our lives in an exotic beach location. We took nearly 2 years traveling to resort destinations all over the outer islands of the Caribbean, North and Central America. We wanted to find not only a beautiful place but also a safe one for not only ourselves but for our family as well. Security is always my first concern for my wife to be. We have never felt safer than we do here. The fundamental characteristics we considered were a stable government, favorable taxes and a safe currency. There must also be an abundance of outdoor activities like world class golf, fishing, surfing and diving and most important some of the most pristine beaches in the world. All of this plus gourmet cuisine with local seafood, produce and meat to match.

The ideal location must have an abundance of flights to and from the United States, first-rate medical facilities and quality infrastructure. In the end after all these requirements were satisfied it became perfectly clear Cabo San Lucas was the obvious choice. Yet after we made the choice and actually moved here what we discovered was that the most compelling selling point of the Cabo Corridor was the Mexican People. They have been so warm and helpful and more important trustworthy. It was obvious we had found our new home.

Having spent many a holiday in Maui through to my teens, my idea of paradise became synonymous with swaying palm trees, stretches of sandy beach, and fragrant ocean breezes. As an adult, nothing changed except adding accessibility to that list. We had looked at second homes in Maui, but the hassle and time that came with the distance of getting there made us start to look for other options. We traveled the world, from St. Tropez to St. Lucia, Portofino, Costa Rica, Bahamas, the Keys and everything in between. We had all but given up the quest to find anything even closely comparable...and then we found Punta Mita. The setting, the culture, the people, the scenery...it makes the worst part of our trip having to fly home.

Mexico is a perfect case of the whole being greater than the sum of its parts, though all the stories in the media would have us believe otherwise. What I see is the not the Mexico I have come to know...and love. We have borrowed a small piece of heaven in Punta Mita. The people possess a pure joy for life, an empathy, and a warmth that I have experienced nowhere else. The pacific coastline is lush, rugged and incredibly beautiful. The ocean warm and inviting. The food is unparalleled and dynamic. The setting is safe, sound and serene. I feel my most relaxed and content when I am there, sinking fully into each day like my feet in the sand. I feel like we've been somehow let in on a secret, one we hold close to our hearts and are forever thankful for.

We’ve been to many Mexican resort communities – Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, Cozumel. However, on a recent trip to Tulum we were truly impressed by the region’s overall simplicity and hope that the area will stay as natural as possible. As we love to travel, learn about different cultures and people’s way of life. We really appreciate that Tao is being built with a concern for the environment; as well as with an emphasis and focus on eco-development.

Living in the Mexican Caribbean region has also allowed for an active lifestyle for my family. This afternoon I am looking very forward to going out with my family on a bike ride on a dirt path through the jungle to have a pick-nick on a small Caribbean beach. Sailing and swimming are easy activities to engage in. We also found little league baseball in the winter season for my son! I have been helping the baseball coach with drills and find this very rewarding to see the kids so anxious to learn and become better.

I came to Playa del Carmen 7 years ago after multiple years living in a ski town in Canada. I came originally to work for 6 months. In that time it was the culture, the climate and the people that captivated me. so I stayed. And it has been great. I call it my "flip flop lifestyle" where I wear flip-flops every day. There is a great community of people from all over the world who have made this home, good business, wonderful beach water and temperatures; great physical activity options so much so the sport of kite boarding has become my passion.

I moved down to Mexico with my family just after 9/11 looking for a simpler, safer and slower pace of life. I found all of that and then some in San Miguel de Allende. After living here for 9 years, opening my own restaurant, and raising my two daughters, none of that has changed. We now consider San Miguel de Allende our home.

San Miguel de Allende is a place where my children can walk down the street and feel safe. I find comfort living in a small puebla and knowing many of the people who live here. Friends, business owners, teachers, police and the bus drivers—we are all connected through the cobblestone streets, the architecture, its people and the life that San Miguel breathes into us. There is a real sense of community, and people are genuinely willing to help you out. I feel it daily walking through the street saying my hello's, shaking hands, stopping to talk about plans for the day and kissing babies. I feel like a true local, and I think everybody feels that magic here in San Miguel.

The negative media that Mexico has been receiving in the US press is a tragedy and is harming many of the local businesses here in San Miguel because so many of us rely on tourism. The media should be more specific in their reporting, detailing the areas that are most affected by narcotrafficking and the places to avoid. They portray the drug war as if the entire country is under siege. This is simply not the case. I wish that the US would own up to its out-of-control drug habit and stop blaming Mexico. It would be great if they focused more on prevention and helping people get off drugs to lower the demand.

Like so many others, I fell in love with San Miguel de Allende and decided to move here after being here for just a couple of weeks. I came down to paint in February of 2002 and had bought a business and moved here by the following September. I have never regrettted that decision. Why do I love living here? Start with the weather, which is almost perfect almost all the time - and certainly I will never again choose to experience the winters of the North Eastern United States - NEVER! And the colors, and the architecture and the lovely streets, the flowers! Every day there is another door open to another magical garden; after 9 years here I am still surprised and delighted by the secrets and magic that continue to pour out onto the streets of this town. I love the food - the variety of it - the people- the variety of them - and most of all, that it is a small city with enough sophistication to never be boring. We have an active arts community and a very involved public, doing a lot of good work for the people who live here, for the Mexican people who have so graciously included us in this inimitable lifestyle. And, on top of everything else, this is a small city that acts like a small town - it is a safe, welcoming and intensely satifsfying place to live, on every level. Bottom line? There is simply NO WAY I could live as well as I do anywhere else that I can think of - San Miguel de Allende is my home now!

Being immersed in a culture so different from my own is a richly pleasurable experience that defies simple description. It's astonishing – and then heartening – to live among people for whom money is not their highest value, who treasure family, festivals, hard work, and free time, far beyond the acquisition of material goods. San Miguel de Allende is the perfect blend of a close-knit community of fascinating “gringos” and Mexicans, from whom we have much to learn about “lifestyle.” Over 60 indigenous cultures still thrive in Mexico, speaking their own languages and producing a huge variety of spectacular folk art that is endlessly entertaining.

One day I can be celebrating my birthday eating a bowl of lovingly prepared pozole in the very humble brick home of my Mexican friends, and the next evening dining with world-class musicians in a lavish home filled with art, enjoying animated conversation with friends from our organization of classical music lovers who bring the world’s top musicians to San Miguel. Where else would I see my friends so often and enjoy many activities together with them? Where else could I start a literary organization and see it grow to world-class status in just six years? Where else could I have built the home I created over many years in my mind, but never imagined I would really live in!

Neither of us knew what we would do when we moved here. I continued my passion for writing and produced a new book. And Mayer started a small folk art gallery that in five years has grown to be what many say is the finest in the country and that includes one of only two collections in the world of post-classic serapes, some of them so exquisite that they have been acquired by museums.

“I used to suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder (mild depression in the winter),” says my husband. "Now I suffer from chronic exuberance!

Joseph: I have lived in San Miguel for ten years now, and I still love it as if I had just moved here. It is a safe, beautiful, quiet place -- a great town for living and working, without being overwhelmed by traffic, hoards of people, noise, and 'the rat race.' As a writer, I find San Miguel inspiring. As a gay men, I find it accepting and even welcoming. The weather, of course, is perfect. Really, after living in maybe 20 other cities and towns in the United States and elsewhere, San Miguel is the best. I'm glad I found it!

Mike: As a Naturopathic Doctor, I love San Miguel for its high quality of life. Fresh fruits and vegetables are everywhere; the air is fresh and clean; the high desert climate -- low humidity, moderate temperatures -- are just plain healthy. With its many opportunities for physical exercise and personal growth, San Miguel is a great place to establish and maintain a healthy lifestyle. I feel secure here, and quite happy.

In Cabo we are 1,000 miles from the border and surrounded by the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez. The Mexican Navy is docked here and the only road in and out, is Mexico Highway 1. I feel very safe here and the people are fantastic. Once, while driving on a dirt road with a girlfriend, we got a flat tire. There was no cellular service in the area so we had to wait for whoever came along to help us. Finally an old truck with a couple in it came up the road. The man got out and since we didn’t have a jack, proceeded to gather rocks to put under the car so he could change the tire. The tire got changed and he would not take any money. Experiences like this are not unusual and that is one of the things I love about Mexico.
